The defence budget has always been a debating point in Pakistan’s every year’s budget. On Friday 12, 2020 government of Pakistan announces the budget for the year 2020-2021. Analysts observe 11.9% rise in the Budget. The document shows that the defence amount would be Rs. 1,289 billion for the new fiscal year as compared to Rs. 1,152 billion of the previous year. However, the increase, If compared to the revised military spending of 1,227 for the year 2019-20, is 5%.
The reason behind this is the ongoing tension between Pakistan and India on Line of Control (LOC). The relationship of both countries are downwards since February 2019 when Pulwama Attack takes place in the Jammu & Kashmir – A territory forcefully controlled by India through its Military.
Both countries were on the edge of the un-ended war when Indian aircraft violate Pakistan’s defence territory rule and drop missiles in the empty areas. Their aggressive behavior allows Pakistan to give a better & responsible response.
Pakistan Air force locked multiple locations and without damaging those locations they fire the missiles in the empty spaces just to show the world that Pakistan has the power of retaliation. Pakistan Shoot Down two aircraft and capture one pilot during the clash.
India has the world’s third-largest military after America and China. At the beginning of this year, they also increase their defence budget by 6% which is six times greater than the defence budget Pakistan. And the most surprising thing is India has a defence budget equal to Pakistan’s total budget. India Increase their Military Expense by 259 per cent in the last 30 years.
Pakistan’s Defence Budget Comparison
Due to the huge debate on defence spendings the government of Pakistan this year provide more details. According to the document of rupees 1,289, Rs. 475 billion allocated for the employee-related expenses, operating expenses will get Rs. 301 billion, for local purchase and military arms purchases Rs. 357 billion are allocated and Rs. 155 billion fixed for the civil work.

The military source said that Pakistan spend $9000 per solider, India $18000, Turkey $37000, China $70,000, Saudi Arabia $360,000, and America $425,000 per soldier.
So apart from fighting with the militant groups, Pakistan’s defence budget spending is the reflection of the tension between the two Nuclear-armed countries.
